The use of melt pump improves the performance of extruder in two aspects


The melt pump is a supporting equipment in the plastic extrusion industry. It is mainly used in conjunction with the extruder to improve the performance of the extruder. The two main functions of the extruder are heating and melting and pressure delivery, which are closely combined. Due to the inherent instability of the melting process, the pressure delivery process also presents instability, which causes the output of the extruder to be in a state of shock and fluctuation. The main purpose of using a melt pump attached to the extruder is to eliminate these shocks and fluctuations.


1. Pressure delivery mechanism
It is meaningful to compare the pressure delivery mechanism of the extruder and the melt pump. In general, the melt pump is an active delivery mechanism, so it can pressurize the polymer melt at a highly stable rate. The extruder generates pressure by viscous resistance.

2. Process control
When a melt pump is connected to an extruder, a control system is required to maintain a proper balance between the pump speed and screw speed of the melt pump. The simple control measure is to adjust the screw speed so that the pump inlet pressure of the melt pump remains unchanged. A more complex measure is to adjust the motor of the extruder and the motor of the pump to obtain a constant extrusion volume, even if the flow resistance increases due to the slow and gradual blockage of the filter.
